Refereeing question about tonight
Their goalkeeper had already been booked and was play acting like a cunt during the penalties. The ref thought about booking him, got his card out to do so, realised he'd already got a yellow, so promptly shit himself and didn't.

What would've happened if he'd shown him a 2nd yellow, would they have had to put an outfield player in goal?

Officially the worst season for refing cock ups, and we've been on the end of some game changers!

He's not half as much if a bottler as the ref in the league game at goodison. They should have been down to about 8 players!

I thought the red was doing ok for most of it but then he misses a clear penalty for us and gives them a silly free kick when Morrellas dives into Tomkins for a non foul!

Morrellas could have easily picked up 2 yellows as well

It's a good job James Collins wasn't eligible to take a kick.
He'd probably have stood the wrong side of the ball and hoofed it upfield expecting Carroll to get on the end of it.

Than Iron Duke.

Well if he gave their keeper a card he probably would have had to have booked Adrian when he spoke to Jagielka .
Seemed to make him miss.

Re: Refereeing question about tonight
So the ref bottled it and didnt show him the card. Doesnt matter now but what if Everton had won?

A red card bans the player from the next match right ? Everton already in the shit with their regular No.1 keeper being out...that could of had serious implications in the match should Everton have met Bristol.

Saying that, that was just one decision that the ref bottled in an entire evening of bottling decisions...

I think Adrian had stepped into the penalty area.

I didn't see that, mate, but I won't dispute it if that's what you saw.

He was still a weak cunt, though!

we could nominate any of our 11 players not to take

Re: Refereeing question about tonight
So did we have to nominate an outfield player not to take a penalty, ie Tomkins?

I'm glad we did, obviously.

i.e. A substitute keeper cannot be brought on, as would normally happen (assuming the side has subs left).

In that instance he was replaced in goal by one of the defenders

Re: Refereeing question about tonight
A goalkeeper HAS been sent off during a penalty shoot out before

A game between Botswana and Malawi went to penalties and during the shoot out the Mawali keeper patted the Botswana keeper on the back and he responded by punching him in the face!

I looked this up.....

"If the goalkeeper is sent off during the taking of kicks from the penalty mark, he shall be replaced by a player who finished the match"

Re: Refereeing question about tonight
In fairness, with regards to choosing someone not to take part if the other team has had a player sent off, it can make sense. Imagine if Adrian had missed the pen, and Tomkins had to take the next one. That would've meant the 11th penalties would be Tomkins vs their best penalty taker - not ideal for us!
